Money Laundering on the Dark Web: German Federal Criminal Police Office Shuts Down Cryptocurrency Mixer ChipmixerIn cooperation with U.S. authorities, the German Federal Criminal Police Office has shut down what was allegedly the largest money laundering service on the Dark Web. Investigators seized about 44 million euros from the cryptocurrency mixer. Stolen funds from FTX are also said to have been laundered here.
Police say the sites ("BoyVids 6.0", "Forbidden Love" and "Child Porn Market") have millions of registered users, making them one of the world's largest platforms for sharing images of child abuse.
Before law enforcement crackdowns are taken, cybercrime investigators conduct adult, technically demanding investigations into these cases in secret, and through international police cooperation and data sharing, are often able to identify and eventually arrest suspects operating anonymously on the dark web.
