Facebook finally launches new V3 onion dark web domain

After Tor Project reminded many times about the upcoming abandonment of support for V2 version of the dark net onion domain name, Facebook finally launched its own V3 onion domain name, the new domain name, although not as cool as the V2 version of the domain name, but still facebook hit the head, or show the identity at a glance.

V2 domain: https://facebookcorewwwi.onion

V3 domain: https://www.facebookwkhpilnemxj7asaniu7vnjjbiltxjqhye3mhbshg7kx5tfyd.onion

Here, AWX reminds all operators of dark web sites to keep up with Facebook's pace and complete the change of old and new domain names before July 15, in order to cope with Tor's upgrade and better protect the safety of the network.

Facebook's official statement is as follows:

Today, Facebook is launching a new Tor onion service to replace our existing onion service, facebookcorewwwi.onion. This new onion service is available at https://www.facebookwkhpilnemxj7asaniu7vnjjbiltxjqhye3mhbsh… .

If you use Facebook over Tor and use our existing onion service facebookcorewwwi.onion, please visit our new onion service and *bookmark* the link.

Why we are making this change
================
Tor onion services have existed for over 15 years, and mathematics and cryptography have quickly advanced in that time. Due to this, Tor released a newer, more secure version of onion services powered by more modern cryptography which our new onion service uses: https://blog.torproject.org/v2-deprecation-timeline

How do I know I have the right onion service?
================
Whereas our old onion service had a very memorable name, "facebookcorewwwi", our new onion service does not. As such, it’s important to make sure you have the right onion service when visiting Facebook.

There are a few ways you can find our new onion service:
1. Visit this blog post, available at facebook.com/facebookcorewwwi
2. Visit facebook.com/onion-service which shows our onion service name so you can save it.

When visiting our onion service, you can also verify its authenticity by checking that you are connecting over HTTPS; clicking on the padlock icon in the URL bar will reveal a certificate which should say it was issued to "Facebook, Inc.".

When will the existing V2 onion service stop working?
================
Our old onion service "facebookcorewwwi" will continue to work until July 1, at which point visitors will no longer be able to log into Facebook via this onion service. After July, this address will display a page telling users to visit our new onion service. According to Tor's timeline, facebookcorewwwi will stop working entirely in September. https://blog.torproject.org/v2-deprecation-timeline
